INDO launches ION Sign at the HEA conference

INDO launched ION Sign, a dedicated luminaire for illuminated road signs, at the Highway Electrical Association annual conference and exhibition at Celtic Manor on 13 November 2025. It is designed and manufactured in Southampton, and built on the same patented Direct Drive® architecture as the rest of the INDO range.

Built for the realities of roadside installation

Sign lighting is unglamorous work carried out at the roadside, often from a ladder or a platform, frequently at night and under traffic management. The design brief followed from that. A single ION Sign weighs under 2kg and presents less than 0.03 square metres of windage, so it loads the sign post lightly. The inclination angle adjusts to suit sign faces from 600mm to 1500mm, and it mounts either post top or side entry across a 34 to 76mm spigot range, with wall and mid-column options.

The ION Sign light is built for the realities of roadside installation: an ultra-lightweight, low-windage design, with wall and mid-column mounting options and an adjustable inclination angle to suit multiple sign sizes.

INDO Technologies

No driver, and so no driver replacement

The argument is the one INDO makes across its range. In a conventional LED fixture the driver, and the wet electrolytic capacitors inside it, fail long before the LEDs do — often within ten years. Direct Drive® removes the driver entirely, so there is no wear-out component to return to. That is what supports a 25 year design life against a 15 year warranty, and on a sign light, where every visit means a roadside closure, it is the whole economic case.
